The Gauteng Jaguars and Free State Crinums square off in the grand final of the Telkom Netball League in Mangaung at 19:00 (Watch it LIVE on SuperSport Variety 4).
Here are all the facts you need to know:
- It will be the fourth occasion that the two teams meet in the final. The Crinums won the previous three in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
- It is the seventh consecutive final for the Jaguars and the fourth one by the Crinums.
- With three titles each, the winner will become the most successful team in the competition.
- The Jaguars is unbeaten in their last 20 matches (a new competition record) and last suffered a defeat in the first round in 2019.
- The finalists have played each other 15 times before in the competition, the Jaguars winning all but three of them. The closest the Crinums came to a win since winning the 2016 final, was in last year’s semi-final when the goal difference was just one (49-48).
- Jasmine Ziegelmeier of the Jaguars will play in her fifth consecutive final. Three of her teammates will feature in their fourth: Lungile Mthembu (2015, 2017, 2019, 2020), Marlize de Bruin (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020) and Chantelle Swart (2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020).
- For the Crinums, only captain Lefébre Rademan has been involved in a final before (in 2015 and 2016).
- Izette Griesel, captain of the Jaguars, is the only surviving member of the inaugural final on 8 June 2014.
