There are two familiar faces in the Namibia netball team and coaching staff who will do duty during the SPAR Challenge Tri Nations Series later this month in Cape Town.
The Debmarine Desert Jewels have picked Juzelri Garbers, a goal defender and goal keeper. She will make her debut for the team. Garbers have represented her country at a lower level, the Under-21’s in 2016.
The team is coached by Julene Meyer, a former SPAR Proteas defender between 2000 and 2003. Her most recent coaching positions in South Africa were with North West and the North-West University.
Garbers (23), who attended school in Windhoek, played for the Golden Fireballs in last year’s Telkom Netball League. She is one of only 20 players who have won all four major senior trophies in South African netball – the Telkom Netball League, SPAR National Championship, Varsity Netball and USSA. Other senior teams she was a member of are the Gauteng Jaguars, Tshwane and Tuks.
Namibia’s last match was in October 2019. They are currently ranked 23rd on the International Netball Federation’s World Rankings. The SPAR Challenge Tri Nations series will take place between the 25th and 31st of March at Cape Town’s International Convention Centre. All matches will be broadcast on your World of Champions SuperSport Variety 4. No spectators will be allowed as the series will take place in a biological safe environment.
