PRESIDENT’S XII DOMINATE THE BABY SPAR PROTEAS
The fourth meeting between the President’s XII and the Baby SPAR Proteas started the fifth day of the SPAR Challenge Tri Nations series like a house on fire and the Baby Proteas were full of confidence after they won the corresponding match last night.
This was evident in how the team started the match, yesterday’s win over the President’s XII was the boost the team needed, and they were quick to get off the mark. The President’s XII came into this match like a wounded beast, and they wanted to make sure that they redeem themselves and make sure that they win.
As soon as they settled they took control of the game and kept the momentum. The first quarter of the match was a closely contested one as both teams kept cancelling each other out until the President’s XII ran with it, the quarter ended 10 – 15 to the President’s XII.
It was during the second quarter that the Baby SPAR Proteas redeemed themselves, they went on to win the quarter 12 -8 even though they were trailing the match 22 -23. The last two quarters were so intense as both teams kept going at each other and cancelling each other out. The President’s XII emerged as overall winners as they won the match 52 – 46.

The second last match of the day saw Uganda take on Namibia for their third encounter of the tournament. Uganda came into this match having had won the previous two matches and Namibia are yet to register a win in this series. Uganda was leaving nothing to chance and went as hard as they could to their opponents, they were the dominating of the two sides. Uganda who are sitting second on the log standing finished the match as winners beating Namibia 57 -27.
Chrisna Lombard, Namibian assistant coach was disappointed with her team’s performance as they did not stick to the game plan, she called this a runaway train.
The Most Valued Player, Ugandan goalkeeper Shaffie Nalwanja, said Uganda had expected a bigger challenge from Namibia.
“But what we really want to do is to beat the SPAR Proteas in our final game on Wednesday.”
Namibia will face the SPAR Proteas tomorrow in the late game whilst Uganda enjoys a rest day before the finale on Wednesday.
