Betway in partnership with Netball South Africa is set to host the #BetwayCares Skills Hub in Polokwane between 28 and 30 April 2021, as part of Freedom month celebrations.

The third edition of the #BetwayCares Skills Hub will be a Netball South Africa (NSA) level 1 coaching course and comes at the back of a successful cricket coaching workshop in the Western Cape last month, which was preceded by a Sport Administration course in Gauteng, the month prior.

The Limpopo province takes centre stage this month, as 30 aspiring coaches from the province who have been actively involved in the sport will have the unique opportunity to officially kick start a career in Netball coaching, thanks to the #BetwayCares Skills Hub.

Upon completion of the course, coaches will attain an NSA recognised coaching certificate, which will aid them with the necessary skills and knowledge to coach and nurture young talent within their respective communities.

Recognising the historic significance of the month of April on the South African calendar, Betway has themed the third edition of the programme as “Freedom through Sport”.

Elaborating on the theme, Betway SA Marketing Manager, David Rachidi said it was important for the brand to recognise the importance of such a monumental day, by bringing it to life within the context of sport and its role in bringing about a sense of freedom to our communities.

“The month of April holds great significance and history to South Africans. As a globally acclaimed brand that has found a welcoming home here, it is important that we play our role in recognising its importance and relevance within the context of sport and through the #BetwayCares Skills Hub we are able to do this,” Rachid said.

“In addition to the existing course content, we have gone an extra mile and invited key speakers, who we believe will add a new dimension to the course that will expose the coaches to new ways of thinking and ultimately unlock new opportunities for the betterment of their communities,” he added.

“As a coach, your purpose is to lead the process preparing those you coach to take ownership of their own performance and how they will live their life. NSA is looking forward to positive coach development and the growth of our netball coaches. We can only do it if we join hands and empower the coaches” said Netball South Africa’s Director of coaches, Anneline Lewies

Additional subjects to be discussed by the speakers include the role of media, sport administration and marketing, as well as the modern day coach in the context of the increased role that sport plays in society.

SPAR Proteas Assistant Coach and programme ambassador, Dumisani Chauke expressed her excitement with the adopted theme, saying that it speaks to the current situation facing many aspiring coaches in the province.

“It is really encouraging to see a globally acclaimed brand such as Betway pulling out all the stops to empower communities in such a manner. In addition to these much-needed programmes, I am particularly excited by the twist in the plot of inviting guest speakers from different sporting fields to the course. This is a first of its kind and will most certainly add value and a new dimension on the type of leaders that we are producing for the future of the sport,” said Chauke.

The #BetwayCares Skills Hub is a nationwide programme that aims to bridge the gap between the shortage of skills and the employability South Africans during these challenging economic times.
