As the President of Netball South Africa (NSA) and in my personal capacity as Cecilia Molokwane, I am compelled to address the gross misrepresentation of my comments in the article written by Vincent Sitsula of SABC News, which was published on the SABC website on 15 August 2024.

I was raised to respect protocol and elders, and I would never intentionally disrespect them. Unfortunately, my responses were taken out of context and misrepresented.

The article centred on the Netball Arena, and I explained that due to recent political activities, engagements with stakeholders were halted. I emphasized that we await meetings with the Presidency and Premier’s Office to discuss factors crucial to realizing the dream of a Netball Arena in Africa, such as location, land, services, and resources.

I regret that the article’s context has created a false perception that I and Netball South Africa are ungrateful, arrogant, and disrespectful towards our government. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

We value our partnership with the government and appreciate their support. I hope this statement clarifies our position and sets the record straight.

Regards,

Cecilia Molokwane

President, Netball South Africa
