Netball Achieves Phenomenal Recognition shortlisted with over 20 nominations at the 2023 Hollard Sport Industry Awards
In a testament to its remarkable impact, netball in South Africa has emerged as a standout contender, shortlisted with over 20 nominations at the highly esteemed 2023 Hollard Sport Industry Awards. Undoubtedly, the pinnacle of this acknowledgement is the 2023 Netball World Cup, securing nominations in over five distinguished categories, including the coveted Event of the Year, Sports Organisation of the Year, and African Excellence.
What sets this recognition apart is not just the sport’s individual achievements, but the collaborative efforts of key partners. The formidable trio of Telkom, SPAR, and SuperSport have each clinched noteworthy nominations, spanning categories such as Campaign of the Year, Sports Promo of the Year, and Event or Competition Sponsorship, underlining the comprehensive impact of netball on various facets of the sports industry.
Considered the paramount awards ceremony for the business of sport in South Africa, the Hollard Sport Industry Awards provide a platform to celebrate the top sports campaigns, events, personalities, and sponsorships that have left an indelible mark on 2022/2023.
In a year brimming with marquee sporting events like the Rugby and Cricket World Cups, the Netball World Cup in Cape Town, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup, netball’s stellar performance on the field has translated into compelling sponsorship and marketing opportunities. Brands, including Telkom, SPAR, and SuperSport, have played a pivotal role in fostering financial support and resources necessary for these sporting spectacles.
The judging process, overseen by an independent panel comprising a Chairperson, Judging Co-ordinator, and a minimum of 24 industry experts, ensures meticulous evaluation. With entries closing on November 5, 2023, the next phase involves the announcement of finalists during the second round of judging on November 13-15.
During this phase, the panel may seek additional clarification from entrants, displaying the rigorous yet fair evaluation process. The final round, to be concluded by the independent Chairperson and Judging Co-ordinator, holds the promise of revealing outstanding winners. In instances where a clear victor is elusive, a third round of judging may be called for.
In the preceding year, netball’s impactful presence was recognized with nominations in two key categories at the Sport Industry Awards – the Communication Award of the Year for the 2022 Telkom Netball League and the African Excellence Award (Cross Border) for the 2023 Netball World Cup Africa Regional Qualifiers.
As the anticipation builds towards the grand gala event slated for November 23, 2023, at the Turffontein Racecourse in the heart of Johannesburg, the netball community, sponsors, and enthusiasts alike eagerly await the unveiling of the champions who have reshaped the landscape of sports business.
Recently, the Netball World Cup 2023 was also named the ‘Best Sporting Event of the Year 2023’ at the Sports Business Awards 2023 (SBA 2023) in London, after being shortlisted in August.
