Mahloko, Nketsa and Van Der Berg (all born in 2001) already represented their country back in 2017 when they were teammates in the South African u16 team that won the Cossasa Games in Lesotho. Mahloko captained the team.
Nketsa (20) made a name for herself in her matric year of Sentraal High School in Bloemfontein. In 2019 she toured with the South African u18 side to the International schoolgirls challenge in New Zealand. She was named as South Africa’s best player. Earlier in 2019 she was the Player of the Tournament at the Wildeklawer SuperSchools.
She also played for the national u16’s in 2017. Nketsa was a member of the SA u21 teams in 2020 and 2021. Playing for the SPAR Baby Proteas against the SA President’s XII in 2021 she earned a Player of the Match award. The wing defence/centre made her debut for the Crinums in 2020.
🗣 Nketsa on her selection: “It’s a dream to be in the Protea team since I was a child. To be called up and given a chance to showcase my talent is a blessing. It still feels surreal. I’m really thankful.
“My mom (Matshidiso) is my ultimate inspiration. Her support and motivation always blow my mind, so this one is honestly for her.”
