SPAR PROTEAS NEWCOMER ELMERÉ VAN DER BERG 🔥

Four uncapped players, Jessica du Plessis, Boitumelo Mahloko, Refiloe Nketsa and Elmeré van der Berg were named in the SPAR Proteas group of 16 players that will travel to Kingston for a series against Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago in October.

Mahloko, Nketsa and Van Der Berg (all born in 2001) already represented their country back in 2017 when they were teammates in the South African u16 team that won the Cossasa Games in Lesotho. Mahloko captained the team.

Van Der Berg (20), a goal shooter and goal attack, is one of the tallest players in the country at 1.91m. Whilst still in school (Jim Fouché High in Bloemfontein) she already represented the SA u20 (2018) and SA u21 (2019-2021) teams.

Last year she was a member of the Flames and Dr Kenneth Kaunda teams. She will play for the North West University in the upcoming Varsity Netball competition. Van Der Berg earned two Player of the Match awards in last year’s Telkom Netball League against strong outfits in the Fireballs and Stings.

🗣 Van Der Berg on her selection: “It is a huge privileged for me to be selected in the team going to Jamaica. It always has been my dream to play for the Proteas. I am very honored to be selected and all the glory to God. The people that inspired me most is everyone playing overseas in the Suncorp Super Netball.”
