Aspiring coaches attending the #BetwayCares Skills Hub Netball Level 1 Coaching Course in Polokwane had an opportunity to meet and engage  with #BetwayCares Skills Hub ambassador, Dumisani Chauke on the second day of the Betway-sponsored course.

The current Spar-Proteas assistant coach, who also honed her coaching skills through similar programmes is among the invited guest speakers, as part of the brand’s amplification of the course, in line with the adopted theme of Freedom Through Sport.

Speaking to the budding coaches who have assembled at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium for the three-day course, Chauke shared some of the reasons why she is passionate about her calling as well as sharing some insights into the world of international level coaching.

“My burning passion for coaching can be attributed to the changes the  sport brought into  my life. Coming from a small village, very few people have the opportunity to play  or coach at the highest level. A programme such as the #BetwayCares Skills Hub affords us the scarce opportunity to instil hope and encourage the next generation about the endless opportunities and freedom that sport can bring,” said Chauke.

The former goal shooter also emphasised the importance of going the extra-mile as a coach, saying that a coach must be willing to play a role model figure to his or her players.

“Not all players come from stable backgrounds and in ensuring that we get the best performance out of our players, we need to play an exemplary role at all times. Gaining the trust and confidence of players adds so much value to our teams because not only do they see us as coaches, but we play a key role in their outlook of life , something that they may not always have at home,” she added.

The Limpopo edition of the #BetwayCares Skills Hub concludes on Friday and will see the coaches undergoing media training with some of the most respected sports journalists from the Limpopo province.
