NETBALL SOUTH AFRICA POSITION – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (“CEO”)

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking to recruit an experienced and effective CEO to supervise and control all strategic and business aspects of Netball South Africa.

The successful candidate will be an experienced executive and leader with an ability to identify, action and achieve the desired outcomes of the Netball South Africa Executive Board. The goal is to drive the Organisation in all areas of Netball, nationally and internationally.

The CEO will have the responsibility to ensure that the vision and mission as envisaged in Netball South Africa’s memorandum of incorporation and constitution is consistently achieved.

To provide an efficient strategic, operational, and administrative service and system for Netball south Africa, on a national level, in consultation with the National Executive Committee and members in accordance with the Constitution, Regulations and policies of the Organisation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A honours degree in Administration, Marketing , Finance  or equivalent. Other higher qualifications will be an added advantage to the applicant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The CEO will be expected to do the following:

  • To devote all of his/her working time, attention and ability to the business and affairs of the Organization, in his/her capacity as CEO;
  • To always promote the best interests of the Organization and ensure that the required systems and processes are in place for its effective operation;
  • To investigate and implement cost-saving measures;
  • To implement restructuring where appropriate, with the consent of the Board, who’s consent may not be unreasonably withheld;
  • To travel to any national or international Netball related events, when deemed appropriate by his/her position;
  • To responsibly manage the Organization’s budgeting and financial responsibilities;
  • To attend to the Organization’s strategic needs;
  • To manage the Organization’s staffing and contractor procurement and ensure same is in accordance with the Organization’s best interests;
  • To attend, where possible, all Organization and industry functions and events;
  • To attend, where possible, all strategic and executive meetings of the Organization;
  • To ensure that industry-related compliancy levels are met;
  • To identify risks that have the potential to negatively impact on the Organization and advise the board on solutions for such risks;
  • To keep the Executive / Board Members informed of any information that they require by providing requested reports in a timely fashion;
  • Comply with the NSA Constitution and Policies and Procedures at all times;
  • Manage the services of the accountant, VAT, Tax, salaries and PAYE – all accounting processes;
  • Accounting to our auditors;
  • Dealing with all international communication requests;
  • Investigating and providing opportunities for new competitions and relationships with global partners and stakeholders;
  • Assisting our business partners to find sponsors and investors;
  • The appointment and management of service providers.
  • Look for ways to positively improve the Organisation and inform the Board of any implementation plans that have been developed.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Strategic and Operational management
    • Compile, coordinate and execute strategic and business plans for NSA, as requested and in consultation with and support of the Executive Committee.
    • Provide support in the strategic positioning of NSA in the national and international environment. Enhance and market the activities of NSA locally and internationally.
    • Do continuous short- and medium-term planning to ensure the effective functioning of the Executive members of NSA.
  1. Liaison and NSA representation
    • Work with the NSA President to build and maintain effective relationships with all key strategic partners – including the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, SASCOC, World Netball, Africa Netball and all our sponsors and netball players.
    • Liaise with service providers, suppliers and international netball countries.
    • Network and represent together with the president at relevant national and international meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops and functions approved by the president and EXCO.
  1. Financial Management
  • Work with the accountant to prepare annual budgets for consideration by the Finance committee. This includes providing regular analyses of actual financial results to the approved budget. (weekly cashflow spreadsheets)
  • Control costs by applying effective control measures.
  • Ensuring proper financial management and regular financial reporting.
  • Oversee the organisation’s annual budget and audit process.
  • Create a sustainable income opportunities.
  1. Marketing and Communication Management
  • Marketing of NSA and NSA programmes locally and internationally.
  • Oversee and coordinate NSA event management.
  • Provide leadership in the management of publicity and public relations, and create an awareness to NSA activities.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrable effective experience as a CEO or executive;
  • Experience in developing profitable strategies and the implementation of a vision;
  • Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles;
  • Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, public relations, finance;
  • Proven experience in an executive and / or in other managerial position.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices, markets and industry of the organisation;
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with outstanding organisational and leadership skills;
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills;
  • Relevant Business Management Qualification/HDBM/Relevant Post graduate Qualification;
  • 10 or more years’ experience within the sports industry.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Relevant Business Management Qualification/HDBM/Relevant Post graduate Qualification
