11 July 2022, Witbank – The Telkom Netball Championships (TNC) made a return for the second year in a row and this time around it takes place in Witbank. The games are played at General Hertzog High Schools and Kragbron Primary School.

This tournament is a partnership between SA Schools Netball (SASN), Netball South Africa (NSA) and Telkom and this is the second year that the mobile operator sponsors the tournament. In total, there are 78 teams that have registered from under-17’s, under-18’s and under-19’s, respectively.

“We are eternally grateful to our mother body Netball South Africa for once again believing in us and what we are trying to achieve here. We believe that we have a lot of untapped talent in schools and such tournaments will help us identify these young players and make sure that we do not lose them,” said SA Schools Netball President Dianne Wooley.

TNC is broken down in three age group categories from under-17’s who have 23 teams registered, the under-18’s have confirmed 17 teams and the under-19’s have 38 teams registered to compete.

“This is what we meant when we said that we are taking netball back to the people and making it fashionable. For us to be able to build the great teams we want and compete at the highest level, then we need to get the basics right and this is where it starts. It is particularly important for us to make sure that we do things right,” said Cecilia Molokwane – Netball South Africa President.

The Telkom Netball Champs will run from the 11th of July till 15th July 2022 at the General Hertzog High School out in Witbank, Mpumalanga.
